Univision releases list of nominees for Premios Juventud 2021

Tuesday morning Univision personalities & PJ host Alejandra Espinoza, actor and singer Gabriel Coronel, on-air talent Roberto Hernández, influencer MARKO & Migbelis Castellanos all gathered in Wynwood to kick-off the 18th season of Premios Juventud.

The invite-only media event moderated by Alejandra Univision announced “Premios Juventud” 2021 (PJ/Youth Awards) nominations focusing on “Youth Leading Change in Culture.” This year’s 160 nominees reflect the diversity and global growth of Latin music, and recognizes artists using their star power to drive change.

The highly-anticipated summer youth awards show will be the first to welcome back a live audience at the Watsco Center in Miami on Thursday, July 22 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on Univision. 

This year, we are thrilled to bring summer’s most awaited celebration, ‘PremiosJuventud,’ a platform that entertains, inspires, and empowers youth,” said Ignacio Meyer, SVP of Music, Nonfiction and Development at Univision.

“We made history as the first live music awards show during the pandemic and now we are excited to bring back a live audience to our show that will feature Latin music’s hottest stars, emerging artists, and honor remarkable individuals making their mark in the community and around the globe.”

Alejandra Espinoza, Univision’s personality and host for this year’s “Nuestra Belleza Latina,” will be one of the show’s main hosts, with other hosts scheduled to be announced at a later date. 

The popular pre-show “PJ Takeover” will be hosted by actor and singer Gabriel Coronel, host of “Sal y Pimienta” Jomari Goyso, “Enamorándonos’” love correspondent Roberto Hernández

Keeping with the theme of change in culture, Premios Juventud added 14 new categories, they include:

  • Best Regional Mexican Collaboration, recognizing the best collaboration among regional Mexican artists
  • Best Regional Mexican Fusion, recognizing the best collaboration by a regional Mexican artist as well as an artist from a different genre
  • Best Regional Mexican Song, the fans’ favorite song within this genre
  • Best Album Regional Mexican

Other categories include: Youth Artist Female / Youth Artist Male, fans will get to vote for their favorite artist, regardless of music genre; Group or Favorite Duo, fans will also get to vote for their favorite band or duo, regardless of music genre; Viral Track of the Year, to celebrate the tunes that became popular due to social media; Song of the Year, the best songs of the year, regardless of genre; Album of the Year, the best pop, urban, and tropical albums; Tropical Mix, the best song with tropical collaboration; Girl Power, the best collaboration between two or more women; Social Dance Challenge, the most popular dance challenge on social media; and Helping the Fans, recognizing the artist who consistently uses social media to help others.
