Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known by his fans as Bad Bunny, is taking his talent from the stage to the big screen. The reggaeton artist is the newest Marvel antihero in Sony Pictures’ comic book film “El Muerto.” The news was announced Monday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas by Sony Motion Pictures president Sanford Panitch.
Ocasio making his mark in Hollywood by becoming the first ever Latino actor to headline a live-action Marvel movie.
Benito will play Juan-Carlos Estrada Sanchez in the comic. Juan-Carlos, known as ‘El Muerto’, is a wrestler whose powers are handed down by ancestry in the form of a mask (which, according to Marvel’s official site, gives him superhuman strength). Kind of like the movie “The Mask” starring Jim Carrey.
In past comic narratives, ‘El Muerto’ has gotten in the ring with Spider-Man himself. Ocasio will portray an antihero on the verge of inheriting his father’s power.
This is proof that once again Bad Bunny ‘hace lo que le da la gana’. “El Muerto” is set to hit theaters on Jan. 12, 2024.
