Selena Gomez landed a new role and starring behind the scenes. The “Only murders in the building” star is executive producing a new comedy series based on the 1984 movie by John Hughes “Sixteen Candles”. But this version will be told from a Latin X perspective and titled “15 Candles”- quince being the most important year of any latina girl.
Gomez will be working alongside Tanya Saracho, who’s worked on series such as Vida and How to Get Away with Murder, and Gabriela Revilla Lugo, who’s produced and written works like Palm Springs and A Million Little Things.
The half-hour sitcom, “15 Candles”, will follow four young Latinas entering high school as they ‘overcome their feelings of invisibility while exploring what it means to leave childhood behind’ through the lens of a quinceañera.
if you’re not familiar with the 80’s movie “Sixteen Candles” it’s about a teen girl named Samantha whose 16th birthday is overshadowed by her older sister’s upcoming wedding and is ultimately forgotten by her entire family and stars Molly Ringwald (“The Breakfast Club”).
No word yet on neither a release date or if any casting decisions have been announced for 15 Candles, but we can’t wait to hear more about it.
The series “15 Candles” will stream exclusively on Peacock.
