This year el reggaeton está presente at the 21st annual Latin Grammys.
JBalvin once again makes headlines by making Latin Grammy history. The Colombian reggaetonero, who was recently named on TIME Magazine 100 List, has received 13 nods making him the first Latin artist to receive so many nominations in one edición.
JBalvin esta nominado twice para record of the year (for his solo track “Rojo” and as a featured artist on Anuel’s “China”); twice para album of the year and best urban album (for his own Colores and for Oasis, his joint album with Bad Bunny); and twice in best reggaetón performance (for his own “Morado” and for “Loco contigo” with DJ Snake, featuring Tyga).
Of course no podia faltar the rest of the Latino Gang.
Bad Bunny, que le sigue el numero de nominaciones a Balvin con nueve, also has double nods in the album of the year and best urban album categories (for his YHLQMDLG and for Oasis with Balvin) and in best urban fusion performance (for “Cántalo” alongside Ricky Martin and Residente, and “Hablamos Mañana” with Duki and Pablo Chill-E).
El negrito de los ojos claro Ozuna, recibe ocho nominaciones. Ozuna esta nominated twice en la nueva categoría best reggaetón performance category (por “Te soñé de nuevo” and “Si te vas” junto a Sech) and in best urban fusion/performance, for collabs with Rosalía (“Yo X Ti, Tu X Mi”) and Anuel (“China”).
Reggaeton and urban music dominate this years nominations-a complete 360 from last years edition. They’ve even added two new categories, (best reggaetón performance and best rap/hip-hop song).
Si recuerdan, last year reggaeton artists Jbalvin, Nicky Jam and Daddy Yankee, to name a few, spoke out on the lack of representation of the reggaeton genre at the Latin Grammys. Daddy Yankee, along with other artists, posted this mage of a golden Grammy trophy with a big red “X” covering it, with the message, “Without reggaeton, there is no Latin Grammy.”
The Latin Grammys will air Nov. 19 on the Univision network.
